How to Help People Grow

THE 1-3 SYSTEM

One Command and Three Practical steps

1 Corinthians 3:6-12

The Foundation:

  • Every person is somewhere on their spiritual journey. At some point they are born physically. Hopefully they trust Christ as their savior and become born-again. From this point on God wants them to Grow spiritually and become mature (Col 1:8-11).

  • God is working in each persons life to grow and mature them (Philippians 1:6; John 16:8-11).

  • God uses people to help others grow (1 Corinthians 3:6). Our Goal is to Seek to allow God to use me to move people people forward in their spiritual journey towards trusting in Christ and/or becoming a mature believer.

The One Command: Join God’s Work.

God is working in the people around us. Join God’s work by building relationships, planting seeds and watering (1 Corinthians 3:6-10)

The 3 Step (No necessarily in Order)

Step #1: Build Relationships using TICKS.

  1. Time

  2. Interest

  3. Connections (Find things in common)

  4. Kindness

  5. Sharing.

Step #2: Planting Seeds (Sharing Truth).

  1. Ask questions

    1. What does your church believe on how to get to heaven?

    2. If you died tonight and stood before God and God asked you, “Why should I let you into heaven, what would you say?”

    3. Has anyone ever taken a bible and shown you how you can get to heaven?

  2. Share truth

    1. Make the most of opportunities.

    2. Know how to share the gospel.

Step #3: Water (Encourage growth)

Use Paul’s 3 Tools (1 Thessalonians 2:12)

    1. Tool #1: Exhort or Motivate
    2. Tool #2: Comfort
    3. Tool #3: Charge
