How the Christian is to Respond to Government, People, and Self
Wednesday, July 5th, 2006Text: Romans 13
Responding to Government (1-7):
-
Obey, Respect, and Submit to Governing Authorities (13:1-7; 2 Peter 2:13-14)
Why?
-
The Government has God Given Authority (1-2; John 19:10)
-
The Government leaders are ordained or established by God (2)
-
The Government is a Minster of God to punish evil and reward good (3-4)
What if the Government is Corrupt or not doing their job?
-
1 Peter 3:13-17
-
When Paul wrote this, it could not be called a upright government.
Â
Responding to People (8-10):
-
Don’t be obligated to people.
-
Love by not wronging and then treating others how you want to be treated.
Responding to Ourselves (11-14):
-
The conflict is between our flesh and allowing Christ to control us.
-
Don’t feed the flesh through our thoughts or outside influences.
-
Example: Reflecting on how someone hurt us and replaying that will stir up the flesh and lead to bitterness.
